ARA-290 (cibinetide) improved neuropathic pain and regrew nerve fibres
In people with sarcoidosis and small-fibre nerve damage, 28 days of treatment beat placebo.
ARA-290 is a small peptide designed to activate the so-called innate repair receptor, which dampens inflammatory processes and stimulates tissue repair. It was tested in people with sarcoidosis and documented small nerve fibre loss.
In this blinded, placebo-controlled trial, 28 days of daily dosing improved neuropathic symptoms and increased corneal nerve fibre density, an objective measure of regeneration that did not change with placebo.
In three points
- Placebo-controlled human trial
- Fewer neuropathic symptoms in 28 days
- More corneal nerve fibres, measured objectively
