Bremelanotide improved sexual desire in two phase 3 trials

The RECONNECT studies evaluated this melanocortin agonist in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire.

Bremelanotide, also known as PT-141, acts on melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system. The RECONNECT studies were two identical phase 3, randomised, placebo-controlled trials.

In both, bremelanotide improved sexual desire and reduced related distress versus placebo. The most frequent adverse events were nausea, flushing and headache, mostly mild or moderate.

In three points

  • Two phase 3 human trials
  • More sexual desire and less related distress
  • Acts on melanocortin receptors in the brain
